Most people step into managing others because they were good at the job, not because they were ever shown how to lead. This course closes that gap. Over two days you take on the management of a realistic automotive business and work through the decisions a line manager actually faces, across people, safety, quality, operations and resources.
It is practical, not theoretical. You leave understanding what the role really involves, why each part matters, and how your decisions connect, ready to lead a floor or a team, and set up to progress to the accredited Level 3 programme.
No previous management qualification is required.
The whole programme runs around one realistic automotive SME. You meet the business on the morning of Day 1 and work with it throughout, with new information released as you go, so you learn to make management decisions the way you do in real life: from incomplete evidence, then reconsidering as more becomes clear.
It is deliberately not a series of isolated topics. Three ideas run through every theme: managing consistently, deciding on good information, and keeping people aligned to the same purpose. The point is to see how a decision in one area ripples into the others.
Theme 1
The role of the line manager: leadership, communication, workplace behaviour, expectations and management influence.
Theme 2
Fair, consistent people management: performance, absence, development and understanding employment requirements.
Theme 3
The manager's role in protecting people, controlling workplace risk and influencing safe behaviour.
Theme 4
Process consistency, organisational standards, learning from problems and continual improvement.
Theme 5
Operational performance, customer experience, productivity and the manager's role in improving it.
Theme 6
Allocating people, skills, time, equipment and information effectively across the business.

Foundation establishes breadth and awareness. From here, the IMI-accredited Level 3 Automotive Line Management programme develops the knowledge, judgement and workplace capability to manage each area in depth. Your Foundation development profile helps shape which of the Level 3 optional areas fits you best.
